Neighbourhood Watch

A well-attended meeting with Jill Dockley, Watch Liaison Officer, Hertford, and our local police was held at The White Hart, Puckeridge on 25th March, 2007 with a view to starting Neighbourhood Watch schemes in Puckeridge.

Neighbourhood Watch is a group of concerned neighbours who combine together with the aim of reducing crime and the fear of crime in their immediate areas, and to keep an eye on the vulnerable, elderly and disabled.

Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators are registered with the Ringmaster System for East Hertfordshire. Ringmaster is a personal computer based alerting system to provide communities with timely warning of local crime. It is invaluable when a distraction burglary takes place or a bogus caller is reported in the neighbourhood to warn residents of recent serious crimes in the locality or if a suspicious car is seen outside a school.

Also joining the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme is free and most Insurance companies offer reductions on house insurance if you are a member.

Below is the list of roads who have a Neighbourhood Watch:

PUCKERIDGE

Batchelors, Buntingford Road, Cambridge Road, Chapmans End, High Street, Larkens Close, Lunardi Court, Northfield, Park Lane, Perowne Way, Roman Way, Station Road, Tollsworth Way

STANDON

Churchfields, Grafton Place, High Street, Kents Lane, Mill End, Saffron Meadow, Southfields, Stanelow Crescent, Station Road, Town Farm Crescent, Vicarage Close

Recently there have been a number of thefts and suspicious incidents at the allotments in Puckeridge.

Offender(s) have broken into sheds and taken various items as well as taking metal and tools left around plot boundaries. Furthermore, persons and a vehicle have been seen in the allotments asking for scrap metal.

It is advisable that shed doors are secured with two substantial hasps and staples and two closed shackle padlocks on the outside, one towards the top and one towards the bottom.
Tools and garden implements should also be visibly property marked with the postcode and house name or number, to deter theft and assist police with identifying the rightful owner.

I will be making a greater number of visits to the allotments, but please can I encourage all to contact us immediately on 0845 33 00 222 if you have seen or see any suspicious people or vehicles in the area at any time.

Remember in an emergency always dial 999

All photographs are being taken by volunteers, the majority of whom are local members of the Royal Photographic Society, who are taking a single image of each listed building in the area. Each photographer has a signed identification card with their photograph and they will also be carrying leaflets specifically designed for occupiers of listed buildings giving more details about the survey.
