A silver transit van has been seen in the Braughing area. Two males within the van are asking if people would like to buy garden furniture.
Good news for East Herts residents. Following an investigation by officers from Operation Manhunt and the East Herts Burglary Team, an offender was identified in respect of Distraction Burglaries in the area. Following arrest and interview he was charged with four offences with six to be "taken into account".
Public Warning re Industrial Vacuum Cleaners. Police are warning members of the public not to go near two stolen industrial vacuum cleaners which have been contaminated with asbestos.
An attempted theft from motor vehicle occurred in Buntingford Road, Puckeridge at 2340 hours on Wednesday 18th June. Offenders walked onto the drive and looked underneath the vehicle, possible looking for the catalytic convertor, when security lighting came on and disturbed them.
A summerhouse was broken into in Gravelly Dell, Braughing between 1815 and 1900 hours on Friday 9th May. Offenders gained access to the rear garden by means unknown and forced entry to the summerhouse but nothing was stolen.
A burglary occurred in High Street, Buntingford between 1430 hours on Saturday and 0615 hours Monday 7th April. Offenders have gained access to shop premises via the front door and removed items.
A theft of motor vehicle occurred in Town Lane, Benington overnight Tuesday/Wednesday. Whilst vehicle was parked in the street offenders have removed same by means unknown ~ AND ~ A garage break occurred in Sunny Hill, Buntingford between the 10th and 12th March. Offenders have gained access for forcing the door lock and removed property.

And a theft from motor vehicle occurred in Three Stiles, Benington overnight Tuesday/Wednesday 12th March. Offenders have forced the fuel cap and removed petrol.

A distraction burglary occurred in Church Lane, Dane End on Thursday 6th March. Offender rang the front door bell and then walked to the rear of the property and entered through an open window whilst the victim went to the front door. Offender was disturbed by the victim and made off. Suspect was a white male, 5'3" tall, 30-40 years old, soft voice, dark brown hair, wearing thin black lightweight trousers, cream jacket, black hat. And a shed break occurred in Ardeley between 0830 on Friday and 1500 hours on Saturday. Offenders have forced the padlock on the shed but no property was stolen.
A theft from motor vehicle occurred in Roundhaye between Friday 29th February and Tuesday 4th March. Whilst vehicle was left parked and secure offenders have removed both number plates.

An attempted burglary occurred in Cottered between 13th and 27th February. Offenders have wrenched bolts and padlocks from the outside of a garage door and caused damage. No entry was gained. And a theft from motor vehicle occurred in Wyddial overnight Wednesday/Thursday 28th February where a Range Rover was stolen. No further details. And a message for the Rural Neighbourhood Watch - A theft of motor vehicle occurred in Walkern Road, Watton at Stone between the 14th and 28th February. Whilst a grey ford transit van was stored in open on gated farm land it has been removed by means unknown.
A theft from motor vehicle occurred in Ermine Street at 2300 hours on Monday 25th February. Whilst vehicle was left locked and unattended offenders have smashed the window and stolen stereo equipment from inside.
A burglary occurred in Great Munden between 1015 and 1350 hours on Sunday 24th February. Offenders have gained entry via a rear window.
A motor vehicle was stolen from the car park in Bowling Green Lane, Buntingford between the 21st January and 10th February.
A burglary occurred in Hamels Lane, Westmill between 0830 and 1615 hours on Friday 8th February. Offenders have entered grounds and forced entry to a shed and attempted to gain entry to a detached garage in the grounds.
A theft of motor vehicle occurred in Cherry Tree Rise, Walkern overnight Monday/Tuesday. Whilst vehicle was left locked and unattended offenders have stolen a motorbike. And an attempted theft from motor vehicle occurred in Cherry Tree Rise the same night where offenders have tried to force open the driver's door but without success. Another vehicle was inteferred with in Somerfield car park, Buntingford overnight Sunday/Monday. Offenders have levered the top of the driver's door in an attempt to gain entry. And a burglary occurred in Walkern Mill between 21st and 28th January. Offenders have gained entry to a garage and removed tools.
A burglary occurred in Ermine Street (the A10), Thundridge at 1730 hours on Monday 14 January. Offender gained entry to the garage and removed items but was seen by the victim and made off. Suspect is a white male, slim build, 30-35 years old, brown receding hair wearing a blue zip up tracksuit top and made off in a Silver Peugeot 306 index similar to M153SWB.
A number of distraction burglaries have taken place in Hertfordshire targeting the elderly and the vulnerable. Hertfordshire Constabulary is committed to catching the offenders of these crimes but is asking for help from members of the public. We are urging all residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. If we get a call while a crime is in progress there is a better chance we will catch the offenders. We also need information about what these people look like and the vehicles they use. Registration numbers and descriptions of vehicles are very useful for us to gather intelligence, as well as descriptions of any suspects.

An attempted burglary occurred in Moorfield, Hare Street at 0800 hours on Saturday 5th January. Offender one approached the front door and placed his hand through the letterbox, offender two fiddled with the outside light and offender three was trying the driver's door of the victim's vehicle at the rear of the property. No damage was caused and the suspects, three white males approx 25 years old made off.

Another burglary occurred in The Crescent, Cottered between 1200 and 1600 hours on Sunday. Offenders have gained entry by forcing the front door.

A further burglary occurred in Silkmead Farm Industrial Estate, Hare Street between 1345 hours on 8th and 0810 hours on Monday 10th December. And finally, a burglary occurred at Pavilion Meads Recreation Ground, Hare Street between 1330 hours on the 8th and 1520 hours on Monday 10th December.
Pupils from St Hugh's School this week joined forces with the Woodland Trust, the UK's leading woodland conservation charity, to plant a native copse of thirty trees in their school grounds. The trees and shrubs are all native broadleaved which means, that with a little luck, they will be growing on well into the next century - when the children's grandchildren will be able to inspect their handiwork.
An important message from Crime Prevention for everyone regarding credit card fraud. Never, ever, give any of your details to anyone calling you on the telephone even if they say they are from your credit card supplier or bank. Always, always ring back either from a bank using their direct line or to the number printed on your statement - never to the one the caller provides.
A theft from motor vehicle occurred in Baldock Road, Buntingford between 1800 hours on Saturday and 0800 hours Sunday. Whilst the vehicle was parked and locked on the street offenders have smashed the front passenger and driver's side windows and removed the CD player.
A burglary occurred in Standon Mill, Standon at 2200 hours on Friday 23rd November. Offender entered the premises by forcing the patio doors and disturbed a dog which alerted the witness to his presence. The offender was confronted by the witness and made off. Suspect was a white male, 6' tall, skinny build, 18-20 years old, short brown hair, wearing a navy hooded top.
A theft occurred in Little Hormead at 1430 hours on Friday 16th November. Offenders have loaded farm equipment on to a green tractor and removed it.
A distraction burglary occurred in Moors Ley, Walkern at 1300 hours on Tuesday 13th November. Offender knocked on the side window and the male occupant went to the door. Offender had the word "Anglia" on his top and said he had come to fix the leak. Male spoke to female and asked if she knew anything about a leak and the offender entered the property. Female said there was no leak the offender left. Suspect was a white male 30-45 yrs old, medium to slim build, shoulder length brown tight permed hair, gold hooped earring in left ear, English accent, looked like a gypsy, green long sleeved sweatshirt with word "Anglia" written on the front.
A burglary occurred at a farm in Ardeley between 0900 and 1100 hours on Tuesday 30th October. Offenders have broken a pane of glass at the rear of the property, reached in and gained access. Car keys were removed and the victims vehicle loaded with garden equipment. Offenders attempted to leave via electric gates but were unable to open them and left on foot. A theft occurred in Brent Pelham overnight Sunday/Monday. Offenders removed a trailer from behind a parked vehicle. Another theft occurred in Hockerill, Watton at Stone on 1st November where two bungalows were broken into and copper pipes and boiler stolen. A Land Rover Discovery was stolen from a garage in Anstey between 29th October and 1st November. And an attempted burglary occurred in Whitehill, Dane End overnight Wednesday/Thursday. Offenders have gained entry to the greenhouse and removed shears using these to break a downstairs window but no entry was gained.

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on a number (which is of course a premium number). DO NOT call this number as this is a mail scam. If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call.

Offender attempted to break into the attached garage of the property by tampering with the lock but entry was not gained. A burglary occurred in Lunardi Court, Puckeridge last night. Entry was via the patio door and exit via the front door. Property was stolen.

Offenders have lifted off the main gates to the property forced open the door to the office and then broken the lock on another outbuilding and removed copper wire. ~ A theft from a motor vehicle occurred in Froghall Lane, Walkern overnight Wednesday/Thursday 23rd August. Offenders have gone underneath the vehicle, a Vauxhall Zafira and removed the spare wheel. ~ A Sat Nav was stolen from the glove box of a vehicle in Hill View, Buntingford.

A burglary occurred at a stables in Anstey between 1930 hours on Saturday and 0730 hours Sunday 12th August. Offenders entered the stable block via an unlocked door and rummaged around the equipment and emptied several bins of horse seed. Also let several horses out of their stables. Nothing was stolen. Offenders have removed a laptop computer.

Offenders entered through two unlocked rear doors into the kitchen area and removed a purse and cash......A robbery occurred in Longmans, Braughing at 0845 hours on Sunday 29th July. Offenders entered through a bedroom window and took cash from two purses. Suspect is a white male, early 30s, 5'8" tall, local accent, wearing dark coloured waterproof anorak and woollen hat.
A burglary occurred in Blacksmiths Hill, Benington between 2330 hours on Sunday and 1700 hours Tuesday 24th July. Offenders have forced a ground floor window, climbed in, made an untidy search and removed a laptop computer.
A theft from motor vehicle occurred at the Village Hall, Cottered between 0430 and midnight on Thursday 19th July. Offenders smashed the rear offside window, unlocked the car and gained entry. A number of items were stolen including a stereo from the dashboard, CD player, CDs, cash and keys.
There has been a burglary at Brent Pelham between 1600hrs on 14th July and 0730hrs on 15th July. Offender has approached the victim's garage and with an unknown implement has broken the metal padlock and has gained entry. Offender has then removed four wheels from a parked vehicle within the garage and has stolen wheels and property from within....... There has been a theft from a motor vehicle at Burnside, Sawbridgeworth at 1400 hours on 16th July. Vehicle was parked, locked and alarmed outside victim's work place. Offender has inserted an instrument into the van's driver's side sliding door lock causing damage, opened the door and reached into the rear to remove tools lying on the floor.

The offender has put something through the letterbox and hooked out a set of keys which were under the window ledge. A silver BMW was stolen from the driveway. ~ Another burglary occurred in Aspenden between 1900 on Saturday and 1250 hours Sunday 1st July. The offenders have forced an entry and stolen equipment. ~ Lastly, a burglary in Town Lane, Benington overnight Saturday/Sunday 1st July. The offenders have forced the garage door and removed a chain saw and hedge trimmer.
A burglary occurred in Whempstead Road, Benington between 1015 and 1545 hours on Thursday 21st June. Offenders have gained entry to the garage and removed a motorcyle. Another burglary occurred in Brent Pelham. Offenders have driven on to fields at the rear of the property, pulled down the fence, forced open the garage door and removed a ride on tractor lawnmower. In Royston Road, Buntingford between 1000 and 2208 hours on Thursday offenders have attempted to force open the UPVC front and rear doors but were unsuccessful. And finally in Royston Road, Buntingford between 0800 and 2345 hours on Thursday offenders have forced open a front window and gained entry.
A burglary occurred in Old School Green, Benington between 1100 hours and 1430 hours Wednesday 13th June. Offenders have forced entry to the garage and stolen several items.
A distraction burglary occurred in Aspenden between 1500 and 1520 hours on Friday 8th June. Offender knocked on the front door asking if he could collect a ball from the back garden. Occupier refused saying he would look for it, closed the inner door and went to the back garden and was approached by the offender who came round the side of the house. During this time a second offender entered the property. Suspect was a white male, approx 20 years, short dark hair. One witness saw two males sitting outside the property in a silver Ford Focus.
A burglary occurred in South Road, Puckeridge between 1000 and 1600 hours on Friday 1st June. Offenders have entered the rear garden via a side gate and attempted to force open the patio doors. They have then forced open a rear wooden panelled window, gained entry and stolen items.
Between 20th and 21st May a burglary occurred at High Street, Buntingford. The offender has gained access through a locked front door by popping a single yale lock with an unknown implement. A tidy search has been made in one of the upstairs bedrooms and cash has been removed from a drawer.
Two newly planted Phormiums have been stolen from a flower bed in Puckeridge.
With regard to recent distraction burglaries across the Eastern Area suspects are using the usual techniques of pretending to be from the waterboard, gas, etc. They may be using a black Audi and a blue Audi. Registration numbers similar to RJ55--- and AO55--- but may be using other false plates.
The Police Community Support Officers have become aware of a number of so called charity household collections in the area. When the details have been checked out it would appear they are a SCAM. If you receive a flyer or donation bag (this could even have a registration number printed on it) claiming to be from a charity and you are unsure whether it is from a real charity you can take the following steps.
